On a Saturday night we're spoilt for choice given the rich variety of restaurants in Bristol, irrespective of which part of the city you're in. After scrolling through the website's of numerous appetising restaurants for something a bit different, we decided to check out Kuch on recommendation from a friend. Kuch is a unique restaurant boasting South-Persian soul food located opposite Clifton Down shopping centre.

The string of five star reviews on Facebook were enough to convince us to give Kuch a try. As our first experience of the cuisine the menu took a little getting used to but the incredibly patient waitress answered all our questions, describing the dishes in detail and providing recommendations. In the end we ordered starters of chargrilled halloumi, Lobi (beans, tomato, turmeric, chilli and crispy onion dip), Kash k Bazanjon (smoked aubergine and lentil dip), and what turned out to be far too much Taftoon (Persian flat bread).

The halloumi was the best I've ever tasted and the two dips were equally delicious. For the main course we ordered the chicken Changeh kabab, Galieh Mahi (Gulf fish) and vegetarian Dahl, all with Kateh (steamed rice). We all really enjoyed our mains and the extra Taftoon we ordered came in handy to soak up the remaining sauce. Only one of us had space for dessert and the Tahini ice cream went down a treat (too quickly for me to even photograph it).

If you're looking for something a bit different or you're eager to impress then Kuch is definitely a great option, they've got tasteful shabby chic décor, food that will leave your taste buds tingling and house wine for only £15 a bottle - you can't go wrong!
